Research on the awareness among senior learners of fake news

The project partners have completed the research phase. With the research they wanted to explore the situation in Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Cyprus and Greece in terms of what is being done in these countries to improve the general state of awareness in senior learners concerning false information in the internet and social media.

The results are summarised in the European report, which describes actions and initiatives, such as national plans and strategies, to improve digital literacy for older people, and identifies champions and stakeholders, such as governments and ministries, organisations and NGOs, adult education centres and services, trade unions and private companies. It also shows where educational opportunities, projects and initiatives are taking place in each country. The European report is based on national reports produced by each partner on the key findings. The European report summarises the findings and draws conclusions for further development work. The executive summary is available here. The fully-fledged report will be made available on the project website.

Following the research, the project activities will be translated into the development of a training programme for mentors and workshops to empower the target group to recognise fake news, which will be piloted in all partner countries. In addition, the project will develop the SAFE Hub, which will enable self-education on an online platform for the purposes and needs of the project.
