Many people want to give, but fewer are willing to receive help. Why? Sometimes, accepting help is difficult. Sometimes people feel needy, not capable, vulnerable and weak when they receive help. Sometimes people feel that do not deserve help, because of low self-esteem, guilt, or worries that they will impose on others. Sometimes people feel they do not need help. This is common especially when we talk about mental health.
However, receiving and giving help is a part of the human experience. There is a degree of interdependence: even though it can make you feel fear, it can also make connections between people. When someone is willing to help us, we matter to them. But also, they matter to us when we are willing to accept their help. A healthy balance of giving and accepting help is important.
