Informal carers who have to combine caregiving with paid work often face income losses or have to leave the labour market entirely. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the situation worsened and informal carers were even more at risk of poverty and unemployment.
The findings of an Austrian study carried out by the European Centre for Social Welfare and Policy in summer 2020 call for additional support services targeting informal carers to improve their socio-economic situation and long-term income perspectives.
