Final conference of the EU-project RIVER
Following the demographic trend and the increasing share of elderly people in the population, it gets more and more important to create opportunities for the active participation of seniors in society. The contribution of volunteering as a strategy for active ageing and competence development of senior learners is the focus of the European conference.
The project RIVER: Recognition of intergenerational volunteering experiences and results focused on three themes and the possible links between them: volunteering, intergenerational learning and the recognition and validation of learning. As a contribution to these themes a new methodology for recognizing learning and competence in volunteering activities: The RIVER Methodology was developed.
This methodology was tested in the work with senior volunteers in intergenerational volunteering projects. The final conference will be used to present the project work of RIVER as well as results and experiences from the piloting.
Apart from project related discussions and lectures, the conference offers the possibility to focus on the importance of validation and valorisation of competences and how learners, volunteers and organisations can benefit from that.
Practice oriented workshops in the afternoon give participants the opportunity to get to know the RIVER methodology, to discuss about the importance to certificate informal learning and get to know appropriate assessment methods in working with different target groups.
The conference will take place November 12th 2013, 09.30-16.00 in Vienna (AT), Dachsaal Wiener Urania, Uraniastraße 1,1010 Vienna
